Bipolar Incoherent Image Processing for Edge Detection of Medical Images

This paper proposed a novel algorithm to detect the contour map of tumor using bipolar incoherent image processing method. If the edges, size and location of the abnormality were detected, it would be useful in diagnosing the disease. Technique for edge detection using an acousto optic two-pupil heterodyne scanning system was proposed. Boundary extraction was discussed based on edge detection by band pass filtering in the frequency domain. The chosen band pass filter was Gaussian. It was demonstrated that real time edge detection can be achieved optically by using two offset Gaussian pupils in the two-pupil scanning system. Its performance was discussed along with the simulation results. It was proposed a novel bipolar incoherent image processing technique to manipulate amplitude and phase of the image directly in Fourier plane. This method was applied to segment and visualize the edges of the diseased region from the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI scan) of the patient with disease.
